Aurelien Tchouameni will captain France in their UEFA Nations League match against Israel on Thursday, stepping in for regular captain Kylian Mbappé, who is skipping the games against Israel and Belgium.
France coach Didier Deschamps expressed confidence in Tchouameni’s leadership qualities, stating that the Real Madrid midfielder is well-suited to the role due to his experience and character.
Deschamps noted that Tchouameni was among the favorites for the captaincy, alongside full-back Jules Koundé and goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
“I chose Aurelien because I believe he has the qualities to take on this responsibility,” Deschamps said during a press conference on Wednesday.
