Abike Dabiri-Erewa, chair of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, has warned that the Super Eagles’ safety is at risk traveling by road in war-torn Libya.
The Nigerian team has been stuck in Libya since Sunday’s arrival, facing a 14-hour airport delay after their 1-0 win in Uyo.
The NFF plans to fly the team home after players refused to continue playing.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in a statement on Monday by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, NIDCOM spokesman condemned the “unfair treatment” of the Nigerian team in Libya.
Dabiri-Erewa urged CAF to prioritize player safety and resolve the issue swiftly, seeking NFF and sports ministry guidance.
“Traveling by road in Libya is extremely hazardous due to the current situation,” she emphasized.
The team faced a diverted flight to a distant airport, implying an additional three hours of risky road travel.
After over 13 hours, players and crew endured inhumane treatment without basic necessities.
Dabiri-Erewa appealed for calm among the Super Eagles as they await the NFF’s next steps.
