  • Several farmers remain missing, with uncertainty surrounding whether they escaped into the bush or were also kidnapped

Suspected bandits have reportedly killed four farmers in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, with several others still unaccounted for, according to local sources.

The attack occurred on Monday morning in Maridi village, where the farmers were ambushed while on their way to work.

A resident, Surajo Isa, confirmed that the victims were slaughtered by the assailants, while four others were abducted. Several farmers remain missing, with uncertainty surrounding whether they escaped into the bush or were also kidnapped.

“Two of the slain farmers were buried this morning, and we are about to bury the remaining two,” Isa said, recalling another recent attack in which a father and his son were shot, resulting in the son’s death.

The Chairman of Isa Local Government Area, Alhaji Sharifu Kamarawa, also confirmed the attack. However, the Sokoto State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, said he had not yet been briefed on the incident at the time of filing this report.

This latest attack underscores the persistent insecurity affecting parts of northern Nigeria, where banditry has continued to pose a significant threat to local communities.
