Governors from Nigeria’s 19 northern states met with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, on Monday to address the escalating insecurity and socio-economic challenges plaguing the region.

The high-level meeting, held in Kaduna, focused on issues including banditry, terrorism, poverty, and the growing number of out-of-school children.

Chaired by Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, who leads the Northern States Governors’ Forum, the gathering was hosted by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.

Traditional rulers, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Saad, and the Shehu of Borno, Umar El-Kanemi, were also present.

General Musa briefed the governors on military efforts to combat the security threats, which have severely impacted the region’s economy and development.

Governor Yahaya and Governor Sani both called for swift and decisive measures to address the crisis, warning that the ongoing violence is worsening the socio-economic conditions in northern Nigeria.

Among those attending were governors and deputy governors from states including Borno, Zamfara, Bauchi, and Adamawa, as well as other regional leaders. The meeting signals a renewed effort to tackle insecurity through collaborative action between political and military authorities.
