Governors under the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) have acknowledged the growing hunger across the country, following a lengthy meeting in Abuja that stretched from Wednesday night into the early hours of Thursday.

In a statement after the meeting, the governors expressed awareness of the hardships faced by Nigerians but voiced their support for the economic reforms implemented by President Bola Tinubu.

During the session, Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), briefed the governors on the complete removal of the fuel subsidy.

Kyari also outlined the challenges the company faces and shared plans to ease the public’s burden, following recent increases in petrol prices.

Petrol prices have risen three times within the last two months, worsening the economic strain on citizens.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma said the governors are hopeful that relief measures will soon reach the people.

“We deliberated on issues affecting the country and received a presentation from the African Medical Centre of Excellence, a world-class hospital funded by the African Bank. This facility will provide specialized treatments in oncology, cardiovascular care, hematology, and general medical research using the latest techniques and equipment,” Uzodinma stated.
