UN Commits to Assisting Nigeria in Eradicating Poverty by 2030

The United Nations has pledged to support Nigeria in its goal to eliminate poverty nationwide by 2030, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Mohamed M. Malick, Nigeria’s UN Development Program (UNDP) representative, committed this during the UN’s 79th-anniversary celebration in Abuja.

Malick acknowledged Nigeria’s progress under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting the implementation of over 30 UN-backed initiatives. “Our goal is to achieve poverty eradication by 2030,” Malick said. “The UN remains fully committed to assisting Nigeria through efforts in education, poverty reduction, climate action, and disease control.”

Representing the Federal Government, Minister of Youth Ayodele Olawande emphasized the crucial role of stakeholders in enhancing opportunities for Nigeria’s youth.

“With around 70 percent of the population under 35, Nigeria’s young people are poised to drive positive change,” he stated.

Despite economic challenges, Olawande added that the government, alongside the Ministries of Education and Culture, is dedicated to fostering youth creativity and supporting programs that promote a brighter future for Nigeria.
