The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), in collaboration with an insurance company and an international tech firm, has introduced a mobile platform aimed at reducing passenger delays and ensuring compensation for travellers when delays exceed three hours.

Unveiled during a stakeholders’ meeting at the NCAA annex office in Lagos, the app will help passengers locate boarding areas, expedite refunds for cancellations, and provide compensation for delays. It also guarantees immediate refunds through the insurance company once the airline verifies the flight ticket.

NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, highlighted that the platform mirrors technology already in use in Europe, aligning with the aviation re-engineering mission of Minister Festus Keyamo. Achimugu added that the NCAA’s engagement with airlines has led to better collaboration, improving the industry’s service quality.

The platform, developed by Breezetech Technologies, uses blockchain to offer near-instant relief to stranded passengers, while also protecting airline interests. Industry expert Rolland Iyayi praised the initiative, saying it brings Nigeria’s aviation sector closer to global standards.
