  • A 150MVA power transformer, designed to boost power supply to Kogi State and neighboring areas, was severely damaged, with a ruptured radiator

Suspected bandits attacked the construction site of the 330/132/33kV transmission substation in Obajana, Kogi State, on November 12, 2024, causing significant damage to vital infrastructure.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed the attack, which occurred at around 11:55 PM when the assailants opened fire, forcing security personnel to flee.

A 150MVA power transformer, designed to boost power supply to Kogi State and neighboring areas, was severely damaged, with a ruptured radiator.

TCN is working with contractors to assess the damage and has expressed concern over the rising trend of vandalism affecting transmission infrastructure nationwide.

The company noted that the attack adds to a pattern of increasing destruction of power assets, undermining efforts to improve the national grid.
