  • Atiku said the widespread hardship and worsening living conditions of Nigerians and how to address them should be Wike’s concern and priority and not the intrigues and maneuvering of 2027 polls

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has slammed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his comment on the 2027 presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike had on Thursday during a media parley in abuja ruled out the possibility of Atiku emerging as the PDP’s presidential candidate in 2027.

He stated that Atiku, who was the 2023 Presidential candidate of the PDP, was scheming for another chance to be the party’s standard-bearer but he won’t get it.

He said, “Did he not present it before Nigerians? Did Nigerians choose him? He is lobbying for another chance, but the chance will not be there. In which party? How can we rely on one man for so many years?

Responding through his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said Wike has no power to determine who the party’s presidential candidate would be as he would have allocated the party’s ticket to himself if he had the power.

Shaibu reminded Wike of how Atiku “schooled him and his protégé” during the 2019 election, noting that despite claims that Tinubu was poised to win the 2027 election, Wike is still fixated on and obsessed with who clinches the PDP presidential ticket.

Speaking with DAILY POST, Shaibu said: “If he had the power to distribute presidential tickets like party favors, he’d certainly have kept one for himself. After all, Atiku thoroughly schooled him and his chosen protégé in his own backyard ahead of the 2019 election and then handed him a resounding defeat in the 2023 primaries in Abuja.

“Yet, despite his public proclamation that Tinubu is destined to win in 2027, here he is, obsessing over who gets to be the PDP’s candidate.”

Atiku said the widespread hardship and worsening living conditions of Nigerians and how to address them should be Wike’s concern and priority and not the intrigues and maneuvering of 2027 polls.

“Isn’t it too early in the day for that? Our focus should be on the real issues—the worsening conditions of living for Nigerians.

“This hunger is becoming unbearable; it’s what we should be addressing, not political maneuvers for 2027.”
