The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring quality and timely completion of road projects across Nigeria.

He highlighted the administration’s stance and noted that contractor delays would no longer be tolerated.

Speaking at a town hall meeting in Minna, Niger State, Umahi pointed out that while the Suleja-Minna Road was near completion at 85%, the Bida-Lapai-Lambata Road remains only 64% completed, despite the contract being awarded over ten years ago.

The Minister also discussed the importance of the 1,068 km Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, a federal project set to enhance connectivity through states including Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Ogun, Oyo, and Lagos. In Niger State alone, 125 kilometers of the highway will be constructed.

Recognizing Niger State’s extensive federal road network and its challenges with poor infrastructure, Umahi acknowledged that several projects had experienced significant delays.

Niger State Governor Umaru Muhammad Bago thanked President Bola Tinubu for addressing the state’s infrastructure needs and urged the federal government to consider revoking contracts from underperforming contractors to ensure faster progress on essential projects.
