PDP crisis: Members after my downfall will not resolve issues, says Wike

• Wike said the PDP is not focused on tackling its crisis because some members are making every effort to undermine him.
• The minister also accused Bala Muhammed, governor of Bauchi and chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, of poor leadership and failing to organised the party.

Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cannot resolve its internal crises if members continue to undermine him.

During a media chat in Abuja, Wike described the current leadership failure in the opposition party as its worst in history. “Let me tell you the problem—it is not that the PDP cannot get its acts together; it is this personal ambition,” he said.

Wike stated that the PDP’s crisis persists because some members are bent on undermining him.

He also criticized Bala Muhammed, governor of Bauchi and chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, for poor leadership.

“PDP has never had it this bad in terms of leadership, particularly from the chairman of the governors’ forum,” Wike said. “Leadership is not by mouth; it is by action.”

Wike questioned Muhammed’s leadership, citing his failure to rotate the chairmanship of the governors’ forum between the north and Southwest.

He also accused Muhammed of failing to mobilize his colleagues to fund the party.

“How has he mobilized his colleagues by funding the party to make sure that the party is effective and efficient through the national working committee?” Wike asked.
