  • At a hotel in Lugbe, Abuja, on November 15, NDLEA officers arrested two suspects

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted significant consignments of illicit drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine, and opioids, destined for the UK, Italy, Turkey, and Qatar, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

On November 5, 2024, NDLEA operatives seized 13 parcels of cocaine weighing 4.40kg at the Lagos airport’s export shed. The consignment was bound for the UK via Frankfurt on a Lufthansa Airlines flight. A businessman, Ekeocha Nelson, linked to the drugs, was arrested on November 8.

Similarly, another suspect, Adegbite Solomon, was apprehended at the Lagos airport on November 11 while attempting to smuggle 7,800 tramadol pills, 180 Rohypnol tablets, and 60 bottles of codeine to Italy. The drugs were concealed in food items in his luggage.

In another operation, Anoke Roomy was caught on November 15 with 1,100 tramadol pills concealed in his luggage at the Lagos airport as he attempted to board a flight to Istanbul, Turkey.

At a hotel in Lugbe, Abuja, on November 15, NDLEA officers arrested two suspects, Omeh Uchenna Jude and Anene Valentine Chigozie, with 1.8kg of methamphetamine they were preparing to traffic to Qatar.

The NDLEA also disrupted a trans-border drug trafficking operation. On November 16, Emmanuel Okeke was arrested while attempting to smuggle 50,000 tramadol pills from Ghana into Lagos using a bus. The drugs were hidden in the vehicle’s compartments and intercepted on the Lagos-Badagry expressway.

Additional arrests and seizures were made in Edo and Kwara states as the NDLEA continues its crackdown on drug trafficking networks.
