  • Dr. Nasiru Sabo Idris announced training workshops for accountants to effectively utilize the new Jigawa Integrated Tax Administration System (JIGTAS)

The Jigawa State Government has introduced a digital tax payment system to improve revenue collection and eliminate multiple taxes.

Dr. Nasiru Sabo Idris, Chairman of the Jigawa State Internal Revenue Service (JIRS), announced that the Jigawa Integrated Tax Administration System (JIGTAS) will modernize state tax mobilization and payment processes.

Speaking in Dutse over the weekend, Dr. Idris revealed that a workshop was organized for accountants and revenue officers from various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). The training enhanced their ability to use the new system effectively.

JIGTAS is designed to simplify the collection and remittance of internally generated revenue (IGR) across the state’s MDAs, making the process more efficient and transparent.

In a related development, the Akwa Ibom State Government has announced plans to fully digitalize its tax collection system starting in the 2025 fiscal year.

The Executive Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Revenue Board, Mr. Okon Okon, shared this during a media briefing on Sunday in Uyo. He outlined that the initiative would include electronic assessments, e-tax clearance processes, e-filing of returns, and automating registration and reporting systems.

Okon emphasized that, once implemented, these digital reforms aim to enhance revenue generation and streamline tax operations in the state.
