  • On February 15, the federal government set up a committee to explore the creation of state police in the country.
  • In March, NEC said 20 states were yet to send in reports on the establishment of state police.

The National Economic Council has issued a one-week deadline to Kwara, Kebbi, and Adamawa states to submit their reports on establishing state police.

Douye Diri, Bayelsa State Governor, disclosed this deadline on Thursday while addressing State House correspondents after the NEC meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima at Abuja’s presidential villa.

Diri emphasized that the council will make necessary decisions if these states fail to submit their reports within the specified timeframe.
