Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has said Nigeria’s fate would have been different if Peter Obi had won the 2023 presidential election.
Abaribe, representing Abia South in the Senate, claimed that nepotism thrives under President Bola Tinubu, but would have been absent under Obi’s leadership.
“If Peter Obi had won, you probably would have seen a better Nigeria than what we are seeing today,” Abaribe stated on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
Abaribe also criticized President Tinubu’s appointment of four ministers from Ogun State, highlighting the imbalance in representation.
He noted that while Buhari also practiced nepotism, it has worsened under President Tinubu, who has taken it to a new level.
Abaribe emphasized that the South-East region should focus on revitalizing itself rather than waiting for fair treatment from presidents.
He observed that, apart from Obasanjo and Jonathan, no president has treated the South-East fairly, and the region cannot continue to wait.
Abaribe welcomed the arrest of Simon Ekpa, the self-acclaimed Prime Minister of Biafra in exile, in Finland.
The Senator stated that Ekpa’s arrest would send a message to those promoting violence in the region, instigated by Ekpa from abroad.
Abaribe noted that the Igbo people have consistently condemned Ekpa’s actions and those of his followers.
Furthermore, Abaribe believes that releasing Nnamdi Kanu would help end the violence in the South-East, as many perpetrators use Kanu’s name to justify their actions.
