  • The UNDP’s Regional Stabilisation Facility has positively impacted over 7.2 million people in Nigeria’s North-East, enhancing safety and justice
  • Projects focus on rebuilding critical infrastructure like police stations and courts, with commendation for Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe state governments

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has announced that its Regional Stabilisation Facility (RSF) initiatives have positively impacted more than 7.2 million people in the insurgency-hit North-East states of Nigeria.

Projects implemented under the RSF focus on enhancing safety, improving justice access, and rebuilding critical public infrastructure such as police stations, barracks, and courts.

The governments of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe state have been commended for their leadership and dedication to recovery efforts. Their commitment has been pivotal in restoring essential infrastructure and providing hope to communities devastated by the Boko Haram insurgency.

During opening a six-day training for law enforcement officers in Jos, Usman Babangida Usman, Public Security Coordination Specialist at UNDP, highlighted the importance of government involvement in achieving stabilization.

Represented by Matthew Alao, UNDP Team Lead for Governance, Peace, and Security, Usman stated, “Under the RSF, over 7.2 million people have been impacted through improved safety, justice access, and infrastructure rehabilitation. Stabilisation must be government-driven, and the governors of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe have shown remarkable commitment in this regard.”

He also emphasized the need to address the psychological challenges faced by officers working in conflict zones. He said that providing ethical and accountable service becomes difficult without mental resilience.

Additionally, Abdulmumuni Adamu Maimako, Unit Coordinator of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Center in Shere Hills, Jos, stressed the importance of physically and mentally preparing security personnel.

He applauded the training’s focus on trauma recovery and psychosocial support for officers serving in conflict-affected areas.

The UNDP intervention continues to drive recovery and stability in Nigeria’s North-East, enabling communities to rebuild their lives after years of conflict.
