  • Uzodinma urged massive investment in agriculture to revive Nigeria’s struggling economy

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has cautioned against Nigeria’s over-reliance on imports and neglect of agriculture, warning that the country might one day import palm wine from China.

Delivering a pre-convocation lecture at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Uzodinma urged massive investment in agriculture to revive Nigeria’s struggling economy.

He criticised the shift from agriculture to oil dependency, stating, “Any country that cannot feed itself is not sovereign.”

Represented by Education Commissioner Professor Victor Nwachukwu, Uzodinma called on regional groups like Ohanaeze Ndigbo to fund research into modern food production and preserve traditional livestock and crops. He also challenged agricultural universities to adopt practical farming.
