  • The ICPC has commissioned 109 personnel as its pioneer armed squad, enhancing the agency’s capacity to tackle corruption effectively
  • Chairman Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu emphasizes the importance of integrity and discipline for the newly trained armed squad members

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has officially launched an armed squad to bolster its enforcement capabilities. The inauguration of the gun-wielding unit follows approval by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), granting the agency the authority to bear arms.

At a ceremony held on Wednesday at the Aguiyi Ironsi Cantonment in Asokoro, Abuja, 109 pioneer armed operatives of the ICPC were formally commissioned. This marks a significant development in the Commission’s efforts to combat corruption and related offenses.

Speaking at the event, ICPC Chairman Musa Aliyu, represented by the Commission’s Director of Operations, Shehu Yahaya, described the establishment of the armed squad as a pivotal milestone. He highlighted the extensive training undertaken by the operatives, which spanned one month, to prepare them for their new responsibilities.

The introduction of the armed unit underscores the ICPC’s commitment to enhancing its enforcement operations and ensuring more effective anti-corruption measures across Nigeria.
