The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced plans to operate special end-of-the-year train services across the country to mark the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its Deputy Director of Public Relations, Yakub Mahmood, the NRC said the initiative aligns with a Federal Government directive through the Ministry of Transportation.

While details of the service and potential discounts are yet to be revealed, the NRC assured passengers that the schedules and modalities would be announced soon.

Last year, the Federal Government approved a 50% discount for inter-state road travel and offered free train rides for Christmas travellers. The programme, which ran from December 21, 2023, to January 4, 2024, benefitted over 112,000 passengers, according to the Association of Luxury Bus Owners of Nigeria.
