  • The New Nigeria Peoples Party reaffirms the expulsion of Rabiu Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiyya movement for attempting to destabilize the party
  • NNPP Chairman Agbo Major accuses the Kwankwasiyya group of seeking to disrupt public peace and warns against illegal actions

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has reaffirmed its decision to expel its 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and his Kwankwasiyya movement from the party.

The NNPP National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, reiterated this position during a press conference in Abuja on Friday. He accused the Kwankwasiyya group of attempting to destabilize the party, particularly its National Assembly caucus.

Dr. Major pointed to a recent letter allegedly written by the Kwankwasiyya group to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, seeking to replace the Deputy Minority Leader, Aliyu Madaki, with someone not recognized by the NNPP.

“Despite having exited our party, they remain desperate to destabilize the National Assembly caucus of the NNPP,” Major stated, describing the action as ignorant of the legislative process.

The NNPP Chairman also expressed concerns about potential disruptions of public peace by the Kwankwasiyya group, particularly in Kano State. He called on security agencies to investigate and prevent any illegal activities.

“Theirs is a group known for recklessness, disruption of public peace, and perpetuation of illegalities. Security agencies must ensure adherence to the rule of law, especially given the recent court judgment affirming their expulsion,” he said.

Dr. Major revealed that petitions had been filed with security agencies against Senator Kwankwaso, Buba Galadima, and other Kwankwasiyya leaders to avert a breakdown of law and order.

The NNPP chairman referenced a recent Abia High Court ruling that restored the party’s leadership to its Board of Trustees, headed by founder Dr. Boniface Aniebonam.

He emphasized that only communications signed by the recognized leadership, including himself, the BOT Chairman, or Secretary, would be valid for official party matters.

“We urge the Honorable Speaker to act only on letters signed by Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam or the recognized leadership,” Major added.

The NNPP also condemned what was described as illegal attempts by the Kwankwasiyya group to discipline NNPP members like Aliyu Madaki and Kabiru Rurum.

“These individuals have long disassociated themselves from the Kwankwasiyya group, as confirmed by video evidence. The group has no authority to act on behalf of the NNPP,” he stated.

The NNPP warned that any actions taken by the Kwankwasiyya group would be deemed invalid, stressing that the expelled members have no standing within the party.

“We will not allow enemies of democracy to confuse. The NNPP remains committed to the rule of law, constitutionalism, and decency,” Major concluded.
