  • The student was shot dead in her room while studying for examinations after the gunmen invaded her home on Friday

Two persons were on Friday killed by gunmen in separate attacks that took place in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abdullahi Usman, who confirmed the incident, said the victims are a female student and a clergyman.

According to Usman, the student was shot dead in her room while studying for examinations after the gunmen invaded her home on Friday.

“She was reading in her room when they opened fire on her, hitting her in the back. The bullet exited through her stomach,” Usman explained.

The gunmen reportedly ordered the occupants of the house to step outside but did not abduct anyone or take any valuables.

The second incident, according to the police, occurred in the Jerbanbur area of Jalingo, where a clergyman was targeted.

Usman said the attackers fired at the clergyman and left without stealing or kidnapping anyone.

He added, “Both victims were rushed to the hospital but succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.”

The command described the attacks as unusual, noting that the assailants did not follow the common pattern of kidnapping victims for ransom.

The police, as made known by him, have launched a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killings.
