The magistrate court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has denied the human rights activist, Dele Farotimi, bail.

Farotimi arrived at the court in a police security van at approximately 10:00 am and was accompanied by officials from the correctional centre.

He was arraigned in court for allegedly defamation of the founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Aare Afe Babalola.

In his ruling, at the resumed sitting on Tuesday, the presiding magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, adjourned the application of bail to December 20 after the counsel to the police, Samson Osobu, proved that the bail application submitted by the defendant was incompetent and irregular.

Also providing update on his official X account, fellow activist Omoyele Sowore disclosed that the case has been adjourned until December 20, 2024.

Sowore added that Farotimi has been sent back to prison for the next 10 days and threw a subtle shade about the effects of “begging” in the ongoing case.

“The ruling on @delefarotimi‘s bail application was today adjourned till December 20.

“Dele Farotimi has been sent back to prison for the next 10 days. See what begging has done #FreeDeleFarotimiNow,” the social media post reads.
