  • Fans criticize Pep Guardiola for stifling Jack Grealish’s creativity, longing for the dynamic performances he showcased during his Aston Villa days
  • Following a 2-0 loss to Juventus, Grealish’s 44-game goal drought has sparked backlash against Guardiola’s tactical approach to the player

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is criticized for allegedly suppressing Jack Grealish’s creative footballing style. Fans yearn for the Aston Villa version of the player.

The backlash followed City’s 2-0 loss to Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday. A tweet by StatMuse FC highlighted that the 29-year-old England international has gone 44 games without scoring for the club.

This statistic sparked reactions from fans, who accused Guardiola’s coaching approach of limiting Grealish’s natural play. Many expressed nostalgia for his dynamic performances at Aston Villa.

On X (formerly Twitter), @UtdPride wrote, “The coach killed his career. Pep Guardiola and Jack Grealish were never meant to happen.”

Another user, @johnathonpacino, added, “That’s a shocking stat. Just three years ago, Grealish was hailed as England’s next David Beckham. To be fair, Guardiola has ruined him—playing him out wide when he’s a natural roaming midfielder.”

@TheEuropeanLad commented, “0 goals in 44 games for City. Grealish now plays like a footballer who only passes backward and holds possession. I miss the Aston Villa Grealish.”

Echoing this sentiment, @eemz_em wrote, “Don’t shy away from saying it—Pep Guardiola’s style has ruined him. Grealish’s strength at Villa was driving at defenders and ball carrying. Now, under Pep, he avoids risks to maintain possession.”
