  • The governor emphasised the Nigerian Navy’s need to leverage gunboats to boost maritime surveillance and curb criminal activities at sea effectively.

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has donated six advanced security surveillance gunboats to the Nigerian Navy.

The donation aims to enhance the security of oil installations and combat sea piracy in the waterways, according to Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara’s chief press secretary.

Fubara made the remarks on Friday at the NNS Pathfinder in Obio-Akpor LGA, where Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff, received the donation.

The governor emphasized the importance of leveraging gunboats to boost maritime surveillance and curb criminal activities at sea.

He urged the navy to deploy the gunboats effectively, stressing that securing the economy relies heavily on sustained support for security agencies.

“As we gather here this afternoon, I want to assure you that this government will continue to support the Nigerian Navy,” Fubara said.

Fubara acknowledged the challenges posed by pipeline vandalism and oil theft, particularly in the Niger Delta region.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to providing a safe environment and protecting citizens’ lives and property.

Fubara also highlighted the importance of motivating the Nigerian Navy, citing the recent Sunset Dinner and Award Night as a gesture of appreciation.

The governor donated three units of bungalows for senior officers’ quarters and rating Bofor’s accommodation, in addition to the gunboats.

He expressed optimism that the Nigerian Navy will perform effectively with the provision of necessary equipment and logistics.
