  • Speaker Abbas Tajudeen has denied owing any land fees to the FCTA, confirming all payments were settled by October 2024
  • He criticized the FCTA for mistakenly listing him as a defaulter and urged accurately handling land title matters

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has refuted claims that he owes any outstanding land fees to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the Speaker clarified that he had settled all outstanding payments since October 2024.

The statement read: “The attention of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D., GCON, has been drawn to reports alleging the revocation of land titles in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to non-payment of fees.

For the record, the Speaker owns only one allocated land in the FCT and fully cleared the outstanding fees in October 2024 after the FCTA’s newspaper publications on the matter.”

Abbas emphasized that it was an error for the FCTA to include his name among defaulters, resulting in the reported revocation of land titles. He urged the FCTA to handle such matters with greater accuracy.

“The FCTA is advised to be more circumspect in dealing with such issues to avoid misinformation,” the statement added.

The Speaker also called on the media to verify information before publication. “The media are urged to refrain from spreading misleading information about the Speaker’s person and to ensure proper fact-checking,” the statement concluded.

This clarification comes in response to recent reports listing several prominent individuals, including the Speaker, as defaulters in paying prescribed fees to the FCTA.
