  • The Federal Government plans to commission sections of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway by May 2025
  • Minister David Umahi highlighted progress on key projects, with substantial work underway on both highways to improve national infrastructure

The Federal Government, through the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has announced plans to commission sections of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway by May 2025.

In a statement by his media aide, Orji Uchenna Orji, Senator Umahi highlighted progress on four key “Renewed Hope” legacy projects alongside ongoing infrastructure initiatives across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, which are on track for completion by the set date.

He provided updates on the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, stating that substantial work is underway.

Work is progressing on the first 120 kilometers in Sokoto, which has been procured, with construction being executed by Hitech using concrete. Similarly, 250 kilometers in the Kebbi section are advancing steadily. By May 29, 2025, we expect to commission about 20 kilometers from both sections.

Regarding the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the minister revealed that construction in Section One in the South-West region is also making significant strides.

We are confident that by May 2025, we will commission the first 20 kilometers in Section One and an additional 10 kilometers in Section Two.

Umahi lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention in securing funding for these projects despite pressing financial commitments in other critical sectors.

The minister also noted that the legacy projects incorporate train tracks, with implementation beginning in 2025.
