Two emirates and five chiefdoms have been created across Adamawa State.

The emirates and chiefdoms were announced Monday by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri who earlier in the month approved the creation of 83 new districts.

The new emirates as announced by the governor in a statewide broadcast are Fufore Emirate (of second class status) with headquarters in Fufore; and Maiha Emirate with headquarters at Maiha and of 3rd class status

The five chiefdoms include Hoba with headquarters in Hong (2nd class status); Madagali Chiefdom with headquarters at Gulak (2nd class); Michika Chiefdom with headquarters in Michika; (2nd class); Gombi Chiefdom with headquarters in Gombi (2nd class) and Yungur Chiefdom with headquarters at Dumne (2nd class).

Fintiri who made the announcement of the new emirates and chiefdoms in what he termed his End of Year Statewide Broadcast, which he made at the Government House, Yola, said part of the reasons for widening traditional leadership is to curb insecurity.

He said although much had been done to address insecurity with notable departure from perennial herder-farmer clashes and menace of crimes hitherto perpetuated by notorious youths known around the state as Shila Boys, traditional leaders are needed to complement the efforts.

The governor appreciated the people of Adamawa State for peacefully enduring the economic hardship experienced in 2024, and pledged a resolve by his administration to continue to offer such palliatives as would make their lives easier.

“We are in constant overdrive to deliver. In giving service, every minute matters to us,” the governor said.
