Zamfara: Airstrikes targeting bandits ‘mistakenly’ kill 20, including security operatives

  • It is gathered that the victims were struck by the air force shortly after the bandits the airstrikes were targeting fled the area

At least twenty people have reportedly lost their lives after they were hit by an accidental airstrikes from the Nigerian Air Force fighter jet.

The tragic incident happened in Tungar Kara community in Maradun Local Government Area, Zamfara State, following an attack by bandits on the enclave.

The deceased included the Zamfara State Community Protection Guard, ZSCPG, vigilantes, and some residents of the affected area.

It is gathered that the victims were struck by the air force shortly after the bandits the airstrikes were targeting fled the area.

According to reports, the local vigilantes and residents, who had mobilized to fend of the bandits their community, were caught in the strike.

So far, 16 bodies have been retrieved, with the final death toll still uncertain as rescue efforts continue.

A dark cloud of apprehension and sorrow has enveloped the area following the incident that devastated.

Residents of Tungar Kara are now calling for an investigation into the tragic error and for support to be provided to the affected families.

The military authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, but the tragedy underscores the challenges of combating insecurity in Zamfara State.
