  • He announced rice distribution initiatives in Kano State, emphasizing support for vulnerable citizens amid challenges caused by subsidy removal and Naira flotation

Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement for the North West Zone, has highlighted the emerging positive effects of fuel subsidy removal, benefiting Nigerians.

Yakasai shared this during the flag-off ceremony for rice palliative distribution in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

Acknowledging the challenges caused by the subsidy removal and Naira flotation, he stated, “Yes, the hardship is real. But the bold steps taken by Mr. President are necessary.

Since 1999, subsidies have mostly benefited a select few. Now, savings from subsidy removal can fund critical sectors like infrastructure, agriculture, and healthcare.”

He emphasized that long-dormant refineries are now operational under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. “The Port Harcourt Refinery is producing at 60% capacity.

Just two weeks ago, NNPC GMD Mele Kyari confirmed the Warri Refinery is also operational, showcasing the administration’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s economic landscape.”

Yakasai reiterated the government’s determination to support vulnerable citizens through initiatives such as rice distribution to grassroots communities.

“We are starting here in Nassarawa but will cover all 44 local governments in Kano State. Each local government will receive 200 bags of rice, totaling 4,400 bags across the state.

While we can’t reach everyone, this effort aims to alleviate the people’s suffering,” he explained.

He emphasized that grassroots distribution prioritizes party members and women to ensure targeted support for the most vulnerable members of society.
