  • Tinubu submitted the tax reform bills to the national assembly for consideration on October 13.
  • However, northern governors and the Nigeria Labour Congress have expressed reservations about the proposed legislation.

The federal government is set to launch a nationwide awareness campaign to garner support for its proposed tax reform bills.

Recall that on October 13, 2024, President Bola Tinubu submitted the tax reform bills to the national assembly for consideration on October 13.

Moremi Ojudu, presidential aide, unveiled the government’s strategy for promoting the bills during a media briefing in Abuja.

Ojudu revealed that a six-month plan is being devised to take the tax reform campaign to grassroots communities, Ojudu revealed.

This initiative will involve collaborating with trade unions, community groups, and local leaders to facilitate public understanding.

Abdullahi Yakasai, another presidential aide, emphasized the importance of addressing public concerns and misconceptions surrounding the tax reform bills.

To this end, dedicated hotlines and online platforms have been established to provide clarity and reassurance.

Tayo Koleosho, chief of staff to the FIRS chairman, noted that the campaign seeks to foster greater understanding and cooperation between the government and citizens.

According to Olufemi Olarinde, FIRS’ head of fiscal reforms, the proposed tax reforms are the culmination of extensive nationwide consultations.

These reforms aim to stimulate economic growth by exempting low-income earners from taxation, Olarinde explained.
