  • Egbetokun stressed that the prompt and full release of appropriated funds in 2025 would be critical to the smooth functioning of the Force, enabling it to meet its responsibilities effectively.

The inspector general of police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has advocated for the Nigeria Police Force (NPF)’s removal from the envelope budgetary regime to enhance operational efficiency.

He made this assertion while defending the 2025 NPF budget before the Joint National Assembly Committees in Abuja.

The IGP emphasized the need to exit the envelope budgetary system for precise funding projections.

“This adjustment would enable greater flexibility and ensure the availability of funds to manage the Force more effectively,” he explained.

The IGP also sought approval for a special operations account dedicated to national security emergencies and increased allocations for overhead and capital expenditures.

He proposed funding for five new zonal police headquarters and tactical units vital to internal security.

Dedicated budget lines for police training institutions would enhance capacity building, the IGP added.

The IGP stressed that prompt release of 2025 funds is crucial for the Force’s smooth operations.

The force management team and senior officers accompanied the IGP to the budget defence session.
