  • Buba emphasized that destroying the enemy’s will to fight is crucial in winning wars.
  • The ultimate goal is to eradicate terrorism and achieve a better world.

The Defence Headquarters has attributed the recent surge in terrorist attacks in the north-east and north-west to the alleged influx of foreign fighters reinforcing local terror groups.

Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, director of defence media operation, disclosed this while briefing the press on the armed forces’ operations in Abuja.

“The resurgence in terror attacks can be attributable to the influx of foreign fighters that come in as reinforcement for these terrorists,” he stated.

“These foreign fighters hail from the Sahelian Region, and local collaborators provide a support base for the terrorists.

“They serve as informants to the terrorist reporting on troop movement.”

Despite the challenges, troops remain committed to ending insurgency and terrorism.

Buba noted that although troops may face occasional setbacks, their strategic objective remains unhindered.

According to Buba, defeating the enemy requires destroying their will to fight, which the military achieves by targeting operatives, commanders, and senior leadership.

Troops continue to disrupt the terrorists’ logistics, administration, and fighting capabilities.

“And of course, we are applying regional and international pressure, as well as engaging the media.

“We understand that this war is not a quick fix, but a long and enduring military operation.

“Overall, we understand that we all want to be in a different situation, a situation whereby all this insecurity is over and the terrorist is completely eradicated.”
