  • Vice President Kashim Shettima departs Abuja for the 2025 World Economic Forum in Davos to discuss global economic challenges
  • Shettima will participate in workshops and forums, including a session on investment opportunities for Africa’s frontier markets

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Davos, Switzerland, to attend the 2025 World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting.

On Sunday, the announcement came through a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President.

At the WEF, Shettima will join global leaders, top business executives, and development organizations to discuss strategies for addressing global economic challenges.

His schedule includes bilateral meetings, workshops, and high-level forums.

One key event is the “Roadmap to Co-create Investment Opportunities for Africa’s Frontier Markets” workshop, organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the WEF. Nkwocha revealed that the session would focus on scaling investments in Africa’s emerging markets while promoting inclusive growth.

“The highlight will be the launch of the Humanitarian and Resilience Investing (HRI) Roadmap for Africa,” Nkwocha stated. The initiative, supported by the AfDB, seeks to attract private and public investments into Africa’s frontier markets to address pressing economic challenges.

Shettima will also co-chair a forum, “Turning Digital Trade into a Catalyst for Growth in Africa,” at the Pischa Congress Centre. The session will explore how digital trade can boost economic growth across Africa, focusing on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Digital Trade Protocol adopted in 2024.

“This session aims to foster forward-thinking discussions on digital trade’s potential to drive growth across the continent,” Nkwocha added.

The Vice President will also participate in the “Global Risks 2025” Stakeholder Dialogue, tackling pressing global issues. He is also slated to attend exclusive events, such as a dinner for global leaders and the International Business Council’s meeting in Kurpark Village, Eiger.

Shettima will accompany officials including Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, and Aisha Rimi, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission.

Nkwocha emphasized that the WEF offers Nigeria a vital opportunity to showcase its economic potential and build partnerships for sustainable development. Vice President Shettima is expected to return to Abuja after his engagements in Davos.
