  • The Minister of Regional Development revealed N2 billion in the 2025 budget is reserved for the House of Representatives Leader’s constituency projects
  • The ministry’s total 2025 budget proposal is N28.9 billion, with concerns raised about insufficient funding for regional development commissions

The Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, revealed on Tuesday that N2 billion in the ministry’s 2025 proposed budget is set aside for the constituency projects of the House of Representatives Leader, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere.

Momoh disclosed this while presenting the ministry’s budget proposal to the joint Senate and House of Representatives Committee on Regional Development at the National Assembly.

According to the minister, the ministry’s total 2025 budget proposal is N28.9 billion. This includes N24 billion for capital projects, N2.7 billion for personnel costs, and N1.6 billion for recurrent expenditures.

N2 billion is earmarked for Ihonvbere’s zonal intervention projects in Edo State.

The minister expressed concerns over the limited budget allocated to the ministry, which oversees five regional development commissions. He stated that the funds were insufficient to meet the regions’ pressing development needs.

Momoh appealed to the committee to increase the ministry’s budget to address issues such as abandoned and uncompleted projects, delays in project completion, and poor overall performance due to inadequate funding.
