As part of its intensified campaign against oil theft, the Nigerian Army has dismantled 13 illegal bunkering sites and seized more than 300,000 litres of stolen crude across Edo, Delta, and Rivers States.
Between January 20 and 26, 2025, troops carried out raids and interceptions, leading to the demobilization of four boats, deactivation of over 150 makeshift ovens, and the arrest of 15 suspects involved in oil theft.
In Edo State, troops uncovered a massive pool of stolen crude, estimated at 252,000 litres, in Ugo Community, Orhiomwon Local Government Area, along with equipment such as hoses and pipes.
In Delta State, a DAF Tanker Truck carrying over 15,000 litres of siphoned crude was intercepted while siphoning oil from a pipeline.
In Rivers State, 10,000 litres of stolen crude were confiscated along the Imo River corridor, while illegal refining sites in Obiafu Oil Field and Abalama Community were dismantled. Troops recovered cooking drums, reservoirs, and jerrycans filled with illegally refined products, along with a pump-action gun.
