President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to leave Abuja on Sunday for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where he will participate in the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit scheduled for January 27–28.

The summit, organized by the Tanzanian government in partnership with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank, focuses on advancing “Mission 300.” This initiative seeks to provide electricity access to 300 million Africans by 2030.

According to a statement from presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the summit will bring together African leaders, private sector representatives, development partners, and civil society groups to devise strategies for improving energy access across the continent.

The discussions will focus on renewable energy, energy efficiency, expanding access in underserved areas, and attracting private sector investment.

On the first day, participating countries, including Nigeria, will present their national energy plans, referred to as “compacts.” These plans will outline strategies for achieving universal energy access within five years.

On the second day, African Heads of State will adopt the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which outlines a collective roadmap for achieving the goals of Mission 300.

President Tinubu is expected to deliver a statement reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to universal energy access and its leadership in Africa’s energy sector. He will also showcase Nigeria’s ongoing clean energy initiatives and integrated energy delivery strategies.

The President will be accompanied by Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power; Mr. Olu Verheijen, Special Adviser to the President on Energy; and other senior government officials.
