  • Ayo Adebanjo-led Afenifere faction names Dele Farotimi as National Organising Secretary during a general meeting at his residence
  • Farotimi’s appointment follows the withdrawal of a defamation suit by Aare Afe Babalola, highlighting a significant legal reconciliation

The Ayo Adebanjo-led faction of Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba sociopolitical group, has named lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi its National Organising Secretary.

The decision was made during Tuesday’s general meeting at Adebanjo’s Isanya Ogbo, Ogun State residence.

A communiqué was released after the meeting to confirm the appointment. It was jointly signed by Afenifere’s Deputy Leader, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, and the National Publicity Secretary, Prince Justice Faloye.

The statement read, “The General Meeting considered and approved the appointment of Barrister Dele Farotimi as the National Organising Secretary of Afenifere.”

Farotimi’s appointment comes shortly after legal luminary Aare Afe Babalola agreed to withdraw a defamation suit against him. The lawsuit stemmed from alleged defamatory statements in Farotimi’s book, Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.

Farotimi was arraigned before an Ekiti State High Court in Ado-Ekiti, where he was granted bail for ₦30 million. Despite these legal challenges, his appointment signals confidence in his leadership abilities within the group.
