  • The yet-to-be-identified operative who was on mufti slumped and died in an undisclosed part of Lagos State on Sunday

An officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes attached to the Lagos Division of the anti-corruption agency Commission has reportedly passed away

The yet-to-be-identified operative who was on mufti slumped and died in an undisclosed part of Lagos State on Sunday.

A viral video online shows the lifeless body of the officer being surrounded by sympathisers including some police officers who searched the deceased officer’s bag to ascertain his identity.

Following the search, it was discovered through his identity card that the man was an officer of the EFCC.

A voice in the video said, “He works with EFCC. His ID card is with him.”

The spokesperson for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the development to newsmen, saying the deceased was an employee of the agency.

He disclosed that the officer’s death was under investigation.

“Yes, the man is our officer. His death is being investigated. The incident happened on Sunday,” Oyewale said.

Recall that on January 15 an Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, Aminu Salisu, was shot dead by a medical doctor.

The doctor, one Joshua Ikechukwu, shot Salisu after he scaled his offence and broke into his home during a raid in the Onitsha area of Anambra State.

The operatives, who had travelled from the EFCC’s zonal headquarters in Enugu, were said to be on a mission to apprehend a group of suspected cyber criminals when they were ambushed.

Oyewale, who condemned negative narratives about the officer’s killing, stressed that the commission would ensure justice is served
