  • The state government took the decision after due consultations with all critical stakeholders

The Kebbi State government has rescheduled the 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival from February 2025 to February 2026.

This was contained in a statement issued by the State Deputy Governor, Sen. Umar Abubakar Tafida, who is also the Chairman of the festival’s 2025 Committee.

The statement noted that the state government took the decision after due consultations with all critical stakeholders.

It added that the decision to reschedule the festival was necessitated by the need to carry out a befitting and permanent repair of the structures at the festival’s venues.

According to the statement, “the decision was sequel to the ongoing road dualisation and a myriad of other developmental projects in Argungu township.”

In the same vein, the statement quoted the Deputy Governor as saying that other peculiar reasons also influenced the decision to shift the festival to 2026.

The statement further affirmed that the state government remains firmly committed to organising the best fishing and cultural festival, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the people of the state in 2026.

It said, “We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of the public, stakeholders, and participants in this regard. Let us continue to work towards a brighter future for Kebbi State.”
