- An accomplice managed to escape before the police arrived
A suspected vandal has been electrocuted while attempting to steal electricity infrastructure belonging to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company in Asokoro, Abuja.
The FCT Police Command confirmed the incident, saying officers discovered the suspect’s lifeless body near step-down electricity lines at Yakubu Gowon Crescent on Wednesday, January 30, 2025.
Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh said officers responded to a distress call and found tools allegedly used for the attempted vandalism. However, an accomplice managed to escape before the police arrived.
“The FCT Police Command strongly warns against engaging in such criminal activities, emphasizing that vandalism of public infrastructure is a serious offence,” Adeh said.
She added that security operatives remain on high alert to prevent further attacks on critical national assets.
