  • The ECOWAS Court of Justice will implement an Enhanced Electronic Case Management System to streamline operations and reduce case delays
  • A Quality Assurance Workshop is scheduled for February 2–5, 2025, to train stakeholders on the new system’s advanced features

The ECOWAS Court of Justice is set to implement its Enhanced Electronic Case Management System (ECMS) to improve judicial efficiency and reduce case delays.

This was disclosed in a statement by Mr. Felicien Hounkanrin, the court’s Acting Head of Public Information and External Relations, on Thursday in Abuja.

According to the statement, the ECMS will integrate cutting-edge technology to streamline the court’s operations, ensuring a more efficient and transparent judicial system.

“The milestone project underscores the court’s commitment to leveraging technology for effective judicial administration and enhancing transparency,” the statement read.

It further noted that introducing the ECMS would set a benchmark for digital transformation in regional judicial systems while fostering excellence and stakeholder confidence in judicial processes.

To ensure the smooth rollout of the ECMS, the court will begin implementation with a Quality Assurance Workshop scheduled for February 2–5, 2025.

Participants in the workshop will include court management, IT teams, designated super users, consultants, external lawyers, the press, and other key stakeholders.

The statement emphasized that the training sessions will focus on:

  • Identifying and addressing potential gaps in system design
  • Providing hands-on training for judges and court staff on advanced system features
  • Establishing a framework for ongoing feedback and improvement

Following the training, the ECMS implementation will culminate in a high-profile Go-Live Ceremony, marking the official transition of the ECOWAS Court to a fully digital case management platform.

The move is expected to enhance efficiency, reduce administrative bottlenecks, and improve the overall judicial experience for all stakeholders in the ECOWAS region.
