  • PDP governors call for the National Executive Committee meeting to be rescheduled to March 13, 2025, amid ongoing party crises
  • The governors express support for Sunday Ude-Okoye as the national secretary and reaffirm backing for the Court of Appeal judgment

Governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have urged the party’s acting national chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, and the National Working Committee (NWC) to reschedule the long-awaited National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to March 13, 2025.

Additionally, the governors voiced their support for Sunday Ude-Okoye as the party’s national secretary. They also reaffirmed their backing of the Court of Appeal judgment and called on the NWC to establish a mechanism for its implementation.

So far, the NEC meeting has been postponed four times by the Damagum-led NWC for various reasons.

During the 98th NEC meeting on April 18, 2024, members failed to resolve the issue of appointing a substantive party chairman from the North-Central zone to replace Damagum and complete Dr. Iyorchia Ayu’s tenure. Consequently, another NEC meeting was scheduled for August 15 to address pending issues.

The meeting was first postponed to October 24, 2024, then to November 28, 2024, before being postponed indefinitely.

In a communique read to journalists by Bauchi State Governor and PDP Governors Forum chairman, Bala Mohammed, the governors commended the country’s armed forces and security agencies for their efforts in securing the nation and combating banditry.

Governors present at the meeting included Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), and Douye Diri (Bayelsa).

Others were Peter Mbah (Enugu), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), and Oyo State Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal.
