The director general of the Delta state orientation and communication bureau, Fred Oghenesivbe, has claimed that Ned Nwoko resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to fears of not securing the party’s senatorial ticket in 2027.
WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta north, notified his ward in Aniocha north LGA of his decision to quit the party in a letter dated 30 January 2025.
Nwoko cited “deep divisions and factionalization within the party” as the reason for his resignation.
The senator claimed the party’s crisis prevented him from fulfilling his promises to his constituents.
Speaking during an interview with TVC news, Oghenesivbe stated Nwoko’s defection was “about 2027 politics and securing a ticket to run”.
Oghenesivbe, an aide to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, described Nwoko’s reasons for resigning as “laughable”.
“We all knew it was only a matter of time before he defected,” Oghenesivbe said.
“This is about the politics of 2027 and his chances of securing the ticket to run.”
Oghenesivbe noted that Nwoko hasn’t aligned with Governor Oborevwori or worked closely with PDP leaders in the state.
Nwoko’s actions, Oghenesivbe claimed, demonstrate his fear of not securing the PDP senatorial ticket in 2027.
“What I meant by he has misrepresented the party is that the issues he raised don’t align with our PDP beliefs,” Oghenesivbe explained.
Oghenesivbe cited the Okpai power stepdown issue, a joint venture between the federal government, NNPCL, and the state government.
Nwoko allegedly claimed the governor should fund the power stepdown, despite it being a federal responsibility.
Oghenesivbe believes Nwoko used this issue as an excuse to leave the party.
