  • Following the visit to his residence, General Abdulsalami Abubakar hailed Senator Tinubu, describing her as Nigeria’s No1 ambassador.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has disclosed her reason for visiting Generals Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar at their residences in Minna, Niger State.

The wife of the Nigerian leader on Monday visited the former heads of state, she was accompanied by the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima.

They were received at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport by Governor Muhammed Umar Bago, his wife, and other top government officials.

They then proceeded to visit the former heads of state, meeting with General Babangida for over an hour and General Abdulsalami Abubakar for about 90 minutes. The visits got tongues wagging with many Nigerians attaching a political meaning to it.

Following the visit to his residence, General Abdulsalami Abubakar hailed Senator Tinubu, describing her as Nigeria’s No1 ambassador.

“She has done very well during her 1st and 2nd years. She has done a lot of things in order to bring Nigeria to greatness,” he said.

Senator Tinubu also commended the former leaders, referring to them as ‘fathers of the nation’.

“It is right for me to come here to greet them because they are fathers of the nation,” she stated. “The Nigerian leaders have been very supportive of the government of President Bola Tinubu and they have always encouraged Mr. President.”

She further explained that her visits were purely private and devoid of any political coloration.

During her visit to the government house, Senator Tinubu donated N100 million to victims of recent disasters in Niger State, including a tanker explosion in Dikko and a dynamite explosion in Sabon-Pegi. She stated that each affected family would receive N1 million from the total sum, while the remaining N30 million should be distributed by the governor’s wife, Hajia Fatima Bago, to provide food and other essentials for the victims.

She advised the people to remain vigilant and avoid scooping fuel in the event of a fuel-laden tanker overturning.

Meanwhile, Governor Mohammed Bago expressed gratitude for the First Lady’s gesture, assuring her that the donation would be judiciously used.
