A confrontation broke out between Nigeria Police Force operatives and Air Force personnel in Delta State, sparking tension.
The altercation occurred when police officers transporting a suspect with substances suspected to be codeine and Indian hemp were intercepted.
Air Force personnel, allegedly familiar with the suspect, demanded the suspect’s release, which the police refused, leading to a clash.
Edafe Bright, Delta police spokesperson, revealed that the incident happened while policemen were moving the suspect, found with Canadian loud and other substances.
“The Policemen attached to QRS were on their way with a suspect found in possession of substances suspected to be codeine, Indian Hemp, canadian loud,” the post reads.
“But the personnel of the airforce who happen to know the suspect intercepted and insisted that the policemen must release them before proceeding hence they attacked the policemen unprovoked.
Delta State Police Command and Air Force authorities are investigating the incident to prevent future occurrences,” he said.
“This issue is being attended. We recognise the cordial relationship we have with the Nigerian Air Force in Delta State.
“The Delta State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, and the Air Force authorities are looking into the incident and putting measures in place to ensure that such a shameful event does not happen again.”
