A delegation from the Yobe State government has visited the OCP/Jorf Lasfar fertiliser complex in Morocco, the world’s largest fertiliser company, as part of efforts to revive the state’s fertiliser blending plant.

Led by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, the team included commissioners for Agriculture, Higher Education, Local Government, and Chieftaincy Affairs, as well as the Chairman of Damaturu Local Government Council.

OCP’s Facility Information Officer, Amine Jamaleddine, highlighted the company’s annual production capacity of 15 million tonnes and its global supply network. She affirmed the company’s willingness to partner with Yobe State to restore its fertiliser plant.

Baba Malam Wali reiterated Governor Mai Mala Buni’s commitment to revitalising the factory to support farmers, create jobs, and boost state revenue through exports.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mustapha Goniri, noted that the initiative aligns with the state’s agricultural empowerment programme, which has distributed 100 tractors, solar pumps, and other farm inputs to farmers. An additional 40 tractors were recently procured to enhance food security and exports.

The African Network Center, a consulting firm involved in the discussions, expressed confidence that the collaboration would strengthen food security in Yobe State.

Governor Buni is also expected to visit Morocco to explore further partnerships in education and direct investments in local government areas.
