  • Adebanjo is survived by Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, his 94-year-old wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has mourned Ayo Adebanjo’s passing, describing him as a powerful advocate for democracy.

Adebanjo, the factional leader of Afenifere, died at 96 in his Lekki residence. Atiku praised Adebanjo’s fight for justice and equality.

Atiku acknowledged Adebanjo’s role in Nigeria’s democratic transition, calling him a “formidable force and a fearless fighter.”

Adebanjo’s commitment to justice, equity, and good governance earned him recognition as one of Nigeria’s last remaining nationalists.

Atiku quoted, “I am saddened by the news of the passing away of Chief Ayo Adebanjo, a foremost elder statesman and one of the few remaining nationalists of our country.”

He recalled Adebanjo’s heroic role in transitioning Nigeria to democracy, fighting military dictatorship.

Atiku praised Adebanjo’s tireless fight for justice, equality, and good governance, inspiring multiple generations.

Adebanjo’s life was a “priceless map” for activists advocating for good governance, Atiku said.

Atiku condoled with the Adebanjo family and Ogun State, urging them to find solace in his legacy.

OBI PENS TRIBUTE

Peter Obi, Labour Party presidential candidate, said Adebanjo shaped his perception of Nigeria as a great country.

Adebanjo was a pillar in the struggle for a new Nigeria, Obi said, describing his death as “a profound loss.”

Obi reflected on Adebanjo’s impact on his journey and the significant support he received during his campaign.

Adebanjo’s endorsement was a testament to his belief in equity and inclusiveness, Obi said.

Obi quoted Adebanjo, “Always stand on the path of justice.”

FAYEMI SPEAKS

Kayode Fayemi, former Ekiti governor, described Adebanjo as committed to fairness and democratic ideals.

Adebanjo’s demise was a great loss to Nigeria and the Yoruba nation, Fayemi said.

Fayemi praised Adebanjo’s principled stance on national issues and advocacy for true federalism.

Adebanjo was a moral compass who never wavered in his convictions, Fayemi said.

Fayemi extended condolences to Adebanjo’s family, the Yoruba nation, and Afenifere leadership.
