Afenifere leader Pa Reuben Fasoranti has expressed deep sorrow over Pa Ayo Adebanjo’s passing. He described the loss as that of a close comrade-in-arms.
In a personally signed statement, Fasoranti shared his shock at Adebanjo’s death, which occurred on Friday at the age of 96.
Fasoranti highlighted Adebanjo’s significant contributions to Nigeria’s independence and democratic struggles. He praised his unwavering commitment to justice and fairness.
“Adebanjo was a patriot of the highest order. His efforts in securing Nigeria’s independence and advocating for democracy will never be forgotten,” Fasoranti stated.
He recalled Adebanjo’s leadership in Afenifere, where he once served as Acting Leader. According to Fasoranti, the group has lost a true hero.
Fasoranti described Adebanjo as a firm believer in progressive values. As a loyal disciple of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Adebanjo consistently promoted good governance, the rule of law, and citizens’ rights.
He also noted Adebanjo’s strong stance on restructuring Nigeria. His vision was a truly federal nation where justice and fairness prevailed.
Concluding his tribute, Fasoranti prayed for strength for Adebanjo’s family. He hoped they would find the courage to bear the immense loss.
