  • APC Chieftain Hunkuyi urged El-Rufai to accept Uba Sani as Kaduna’s leader and seek forgiveness from residents for alleged wrongs during his tenure

  • Hunkuyi, after two years of silence, emphasized that El-Rufai should support the current governor for peace, as leadership is divinely ordained

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna, Senator Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi, has called on former governor Nasir El-Rufai to recognize and support his successor, Senator Uba Sani, as the state’s leader.

Hunkuyi also urged El-Rufai to seek forgiveness from Kaduna residents for any alleged wrongs committed during his tenure.

El-Rufai governed Kaduna from 2015 to 2023, while Hunkuyi served as a senator from 2015 to 2019 under the APC. However, their political relationship soured, leading to the former governor’s administration’s demolition of Hunkuyi’s house.

At a meeting with APC stakeholders from Zone One, Hunkuyi asked El-Rufai to stop opposing Governor Sani and the party leadership.

“The former governor has no choice but to accept and follow Sani as the state’s leader,” he stated.

Hunkuyi revealed that he had refrained from making public statements for two years. However, he felt the need to speak now.

“I have stayed silent for two years, but now it is time to break that silence,” he said.

He urged El-Rufai to seek Allah’s forgiveness and personally apologize to Kaduna residents.

“We are here because of the people. This gathering is for them. I am personally appealing to him to seek their forgiveness,” he added.

Hunkuyi emphasized that El-Rufai’s leadership was not due to his name, education, or wealth but because it was ordained by God and supported by the people.

“Now, Governor Uba Sani has been elected. El-Rufai should also follow him for peace. I swear, no one asked me to say this. I speak because I know the path El-Rufai is taking is not right,” he declared.

Governor Uba Sani acknowledged the concerns and emphasized his administration’s focus on infrastructure, including hospitals and schools. However, he stressed the need to shift toward human development by helping residents grow their businesses.
