A support group, Nigerian Youths for Atiku (NYFA), has stated that internal disputes within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not impact former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s chances in the 2027 general elections.

The group, which has consistently backed Abubakar, PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, made this assertion in a statement on Thursday in Lagos.

NYFA’s Director of Communications, Mr. Dare Dada, conveyed the group’s stance following its strategic meeting on Wednesday in Lagos.

Dada urged the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) to resolve internal disputes promptly and restore unity within the party.

“NYFA has critically examined the ongoing power struggles within the party, where some individuals prioritize personal interests over the collective well-being of the PDP.

“It is unfortunate that the party has deviated from the vision of its founders, who aimed for good governance, democratic consolidation, and leadership development.

“Recent events have revealed weaknesses in the current leadership and further tarnished the reputation of what was once Africa’s largest party.

“We confidently state that these orchestrated disputes will not define Atiku’s fate in 2027. He remains committed to bringing positive change to Nigerians,” Dada said.

He noted that the resignation of prominent members and elected officials from various geopolitical zones signals a deep crisis within the PDP.

“Personal ambitions have overshadowed the party’s collective mission, threatening its political future.

“It is time for those who previously benefited from the party to stop undermining its unity for selfish reasons.

“The illusion that all is well within the party must end because the reality paints a different picture,” Dada stated.

He highlighted NYFA’s awareness of efforts to suspend the Chairman of the party’s Disciplinary Committee, Chief Tom Ikimi, as part of a broader scheme to destabilize the PDP.

“This follows a similar move to suspend the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT), Sen. Adolphus Wabara, from his ward.

“These are desperate and outdated tactics that will not succeed. Internal betrayals only weaken the party further,” he noted.

Dada urged the PDP Governors’ Forum to remain united against what he described as fifth columnists working to undermine the party’s prospects in 2027.

He emphasized that PDP leadership must enforce discipline to improve its chances in the next elections.

“The PDP cannot continue accommodating those who actively worked against it in the last election while simultaneously targeting the BOT chairman, who has been advocating for party unity.

“Their actions suggest that preventing Alhaji Atiku Abubakar from contesting in 2027 is a greater priority for them than positioning the PDP as a credible alternative for Nigerians.

“The party must reclaim its identity and prove that it is not an extension of the APC.

“A party that once symbolized Nigeria’s democracy has, unfortunately, become a shadow of its former self, allowing internal conflicts to hinder its progress.”

“The time to restore the PDP’s legacy is now,” he asserted.

He concluded by stating that the party has reached a critical juncture where members must decide its future direction.
